Hell's Hexagon

Back To Puzzle

What Is Hell's Hexagon?

Hell's Hexagon is a variant of the Six-degrees game. The goal is to connect together a chain of actors by naming films they shared in common.

In Hell's Hexagon we are connecting three actors, but we are connecting them by linking the chain through three specific films. In the end we will make a complete loop of connections.

Example

On this site, start by clicking two adjacent tiles on your hexagon. That opens the connection editor for that pair. Add film and actor cards between them until you can build a valid alternating chain.

In the screenshot below, the six outer tiles are your fixed anchors: 3 actors and 3 films.

Hell's Hexagon demo board with six anchor tiles.

Lets begin by clicking two adjacent tiles. In this example we'll start with The Curse of the Black Pearl and connect it to actor Helena Bonham Carter.

Step 1

Pirates of the Caribbean:
The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

Step 2

Johnny Depp

Step 3

Sweeney Todd:
The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)

Step 4

Helena Bonham Carter

Easy, right? Now, lets continue that chain from Helena Bonham Carter toward the film anchor Catch Me If You Can:

Step 4

Helena Bonham Carter

Step 5

Alice in Wonderland (2010)

Step 6

Anne Hathaway

Step 7

The Devil Wears Prada (2006)

Step 8

Meryl Streep

Step 9

The Post (2017)

Step 10

Tom Hanks

Step 11

Catch Me If You Can (2002)

From there we keep extending the chain around the board the same way: alternating film and actor names, avoiding repeats, and closing the loop. Once we believe we've successfully completed the chain of connections all the way around the hexagon, we can click the Check Puzzle button. It will verify our connections, make sure we have no duplicates, and confirm we completed the puzzle in under 36 steps. If so, we win! You'll see your score and can compare against others who have also completed the puzzle.
